Portrait of a big elephant captured in Namibia, holding a branch while walking through the thicket with its herd.
Isn´t it just fascinating how elephants survive in semi and desert areas like the Etosha Pan?
Taking into consideration that they have need enormous amounts of food and water everyday they are basically on the move all day long. Often they spent the day in the bushy areas and come to the waterholes at night.
Despite on other photo trips, I had a few days that I was totally on my own as my friend Michael, had to return to Germany.
It is a different approach overall because you have to drive and take pictures and often cannot reposition the car as you like if needed.
I stopedmy car at the side of the road when a cracking noise appeared out of the bushes on my left. I couldn´t see anything. Suddenly, two elephants came out of the thicket. Out of intuition I took my camera. Leaning over to the passenger site gave me a better position. Then another, bigger elephant appeared. I held my breath. I was unable to move any further. Carefully I released the trigger.
This encounter took me very much by surprise and I felt almost paralyzed.
Unbelievable that out of this situation this spectacular image happened.
