Beautiful composition of two giraffes standing together while one throws its neck behind.
The heat and the dryness of the Etosha Plains were gnawing on me. This on top of a day of concentrated driving and observing that was tiring beyond words.
Totally lost in thoughts, driving back to my base camp “Namutoni” It was a German police post and later to hold English prisoners during World War I. Suddenly there were giraffes, I stopped and carefully reversed.
This sight was beyond words, the low grassland, the palm trees in the distance, a setting sun brightening up the giraffe’s patterns from behind. The two giraffes stood closely together, then one of them bended her neck towards the sky, going into a long stretch and showing her full profile.
My tiredness was forgotten; when I forced myself to focus through the little camera viewer one more time in order to capture this incredible moment.
When reaching the camp and the park gates closed behind me, I felt so special and thought to myself, “Every day nature composes beautiful scenes and I feel privileged to be out here and capture these magical moments to become memories of a lifetime.”
